Genital Warts Spread

Genital warts spread mainly through sexual contacts and sexual activities. Actually, genital warts are spread when the human papillomavirus (HPV) infect a person and the others through sexual activities.

For information, genital warts are actually very contagious and it is the most common sexually transmitted disease (STIs) around. However, it is quite unknown as people only know about genital herpes etc. Most people contract the virus through sexual activities such as sexual intercourse, oral sex and anal sex. Although condoms are used, it is actually not sufficient to stop the infection and merely delaying it.

Genital warts are also spread through the sharing of sexual toys. Sexual toys usually contain bodily discharge such as semen and vaginal fluid that contains the HPV from one person. If the sexual toys are shared, the virus will be transmitted the other person easily and its symptoms are very slow in revealing itself, sometimes taking a few months.

In some rare cases, genital warts are spread to newborns if their mother has genital warts herself. Genital warts can be seen in the throat and also the baby’s genital. However, such cases are very rare. In such as event, warts may grow bigger and obstruct the baby’s breathing passage. Surgeries then have to be done to remove the warts completely.

There is very little possibility where little children have genital warts. However, it may occur as they have been sexually abused by someone and further investigations have to be done.

Genital warts are spread on a person’s genital areas easily. Firstly it will appear around the penis and vagina or cervix area for the females. For the male, it will then spread to the scrotum and anus. For the female, it will then spread to the urethra. Then, the genital warts will spread further to the anus. During this level of spread, it means that HPV is very active and might also cause other complications such as cervical cancer.

One cannot eradicate genital warts completely as the virus cannot be treated. However, genital warts can be removed through cryosurgery, electrocautery and usual surgery or laser surgery. Before it spread, it is always better to prevent it. Some easy methods of prevention are by confirming to one sexual partner. This makes sure that the virus won’t spread to other multiple partners. Condoms should also be used correctly and consistently to make sure that the virus is not spread easily. Sex toys should also be sterilized after every use. Also, make sure the genital area is always clean and dry to prevent the virus to grow on around the genital areas.

Everyone should know HPV is a very contagious virus and causes genital warts to grow easily. Because of that, hygiene should be prioritized to avoid infection at all cost.
